Description of Yoga Styles
Anahata
Anahata yoga is named after
the Anahata Chakra, the
heart chakra. This is the
balancing point in the body
where mind, soul and body
integrate. The source of
forgiveness and loving
kindness, it is through the
heart that truth is revealed
and to the heart where we
must shift our
consciousness. Anahata yoga
is a practice whose wisdom
comes from the heart.
The knowledge of divine
spiritual wisdom, the
collection of universal
truths that we must live by
in order to live our highest
destiny is inextricable from
our very being. You have to
look no further than your
own Self.
Anahata yoga provides the
environment and tools for
this very personal and
universal journey. Combining
standard Hatha postures (asanas)
and the application of
mind/body relationships that
can be found in many
disciplines, from Iyengar
yoga to Alexander Technique,
from Pilates to Tai Chi,
Anahata yoga gives you
access to divine spiritual
wisdom through the physical
plane, your body, your Self.
When there are no mysteries
between you and yourself,
there is no mystery between
you and God.
Hatha
Hatha Yoga is the path most
well know in America. It
became very popular as an
exercise and stress
management system. Its
spiritual aspects however
have not been as well known.
It incorporates Asanas
(postures), Pranayama
(regulated breathing), and
meditation (Dharana & Dhyana)
into a complete system that
can be used to achieve
enlightenment or
self-realization. First the
Asanas are practiced until
they can be done
comfortably. Then breath
control and visualization is
added. Once this is done the
Asanas move from being just
a physical exercise into a
meditation or spiritual
exercise. The slow motion
going into the posture
becomes an active meditation
in which the mind's
attention is focused on what
the body i s doing. Once the
posture is attained the
pause becomes a passive
meditation in which the mind
focuses on the primary
chakra (energy center)
involved in the Asana.
During Pranayama (regulated
breathing), attention is
placed on moving the
Kundalini energy up the
spine from the base chakra.
As the yogi becomes more
proficient in Hatha Yoga the
mind becomes still like a
clear lake, allowing him/her
to see and then merge with
their "true SELF."
Kripalu
Plus
A unification of styles,
with the compassion of
Kripalu, the breath and
sound of Prana and Rasa
yoga, with emphasis on
posture, alignment and
personal transformation.
kundalini
Awakening the energy. The
spiritual science of
ecstasy. A spiritual
technology that takes those
who practice it, on the path
to transformation and
enlightenment. Uses sound
(mantra), breath and
movement to induce clarity,
vitality, awareness, health,
contentment and confidence.
Kundalini-Naad
Do you ever find yourself
getting tired of all of the
ups and downs? Feeling as if
ONLY you could have some
stillness and clarity so
that you could find your way
back to the top of the game?
You can through the
technology of sound. Come to
class and balance the
positive and negative mind.
Shift to the neutral,
meditative mind. Transcend
the ups and downs.
Class begins with
traditional warm ups from
the Kundalini canon to
activate prana and then
moves into an hour of mantra
meditations. Meditations are
frequently from Gurunam's
Lifting the Veil and Alchemy
of Love--this is a perfect
opportunity to explore the
meditations you read about
but don't feel you have time
to do in addition to your
regular personal practice.
For those of you new to
chanting, it is an ideal
environment to get used to
the words, rhythm and
melody. Everyone can
experience the benefits of
chanting--you don't have to
be a "singer"!
Vinyasa
Continuous flow yoga. A
series of sequential poses
at a pace suited to the
students abilities.
Integrating the body and
breath for deep relaxation
and focus.
